Trip to Yanaka

On Thursday, 2/5 Meghan, Jaclyn, and I took a walking tour of Yanaka led by our friend Dee. The town is famous for its large concentration of temples. The town survived the 1923 Kanto earthquake and the firebombs of WWII. It's a small Japanese town. We visited the Tennoji temple. Dee and I are standing in front of the a bronze Jizo statue, the guardian of children's spirits. Megan and Jaclyn are standing in front of the seated bronze Buddha which was built in 1690. We saw the Yanaka Cemetery - those huge "popsicle" sticks are actually prayer sticks. We also shopped along the narrow streets of Yanaka.
